The thing that is different about Thaddeus’ vocabulary is that he talks in a way that most people wouldn’t talk because it seems he is interested in learning. The author stated....”This sentence sounds like somthing Word Nerd would say!”. This tells me that Thaddeus’ character likes to learn. From the text…”Actually their fur is translucent, clear. “Prove it,” I said. And he did. He found a couple of websites that said polar bears have black skin and translucent fur. He even found it in a book.”. The word that Thaddeus used and the research he did shows that he likes to learn.
Henry, I think you did a really good job on your answer. I think the format of the paragraph that you chose was also good. Now, here’s a grow. Although your answer you gave was good, I think the evidence you gave was not the best text evidence in that article. What I was thinking of was the evidence I gave for my answer. It was on page 12 and 14.
The way Thaddeus speaks is different by calling things by their, “ ‘proper’ “ names. For example, he calls ladybugs, “ ‘ladybird beetles’ “ and buffaloes, “ ‘bison’ “. Those examples came directly from the text on page 12. This tells me about his character by telling me that to use all those “ ‘proper’ “ words he would have to be REALLY interested in science. Also, on page 14 it talks about how Linus half expected a gang of his brothers SCIENCE-GEEK FRIENDS to jump out on him; his brother has science-geek friends.
And I thought I did answer the second question! My answer was, “This tells me about his character by telling me that to use all those “ ‘proper’ “ words he would have to be REALLY interested in science.”
What’s different about the way Thaddeus speaks is he talks scientifically. I know this because in the text t says,” But those … (he points back at the mallards) … are definitely anas venenata!” Also, Linus says,” Thaddeus believes in calling things by their ‘proper’ names. He calls killer whales ‘orcas’, buffaloes ‘bison’. He doesn’t break the lead of his pencils, he breaks the ‘graphite’. This tells me that Thaddeus loves to be right about things . I know this because in the text it says that Thaddeus was smiling when he proved himself right.
The way that Thaddeus speaks is that he is a guy that loves science, and using science lets him say bison instead of Buffalo, ladybird beetles instead of ladybugs, orcas instead of killer whales, and graphite instead of lead. That proves that he loves those scientific words he also studies a lot of science with surprising facts about animals, like the polar bear having black skin.
I think that Thaddius speaks different because he likes to use the proper words for everything. I know this because Linus gives is, “Thaddius believes in calling things by their “proper” names. He calls killer whales “orcas,”buffalo “bison.” That is why I think Thaddius speaks different. What that tells me about Thaddius he has a character for wildlife and he cares about animals like the poisonous duck and polar bears!
Thadeous speaks in a way that sounds convincing when he makes something up. In the text it says, they go, “Cluck, chirp, caw, cock-a-doodle-doo, they moo.”
Thaddeus has a character trait or lying to make someone scared. In the text it says, “there's a poisonous duck.”
The way Thaddeus speaks differently is he says the proper name for everything. For example, the text states “He calls killer whales “orcas”, buffaloes “bison” .” In the text it said “he didn’t break the lead of the pencil, he broke the graphite”. His brother stated “he liked to call everything by its “proper” name”. In the text on paragraph 34 the text states “or a ladybird beetle.” . This text portion is evidence that in this way Thaddeus speaks differently.
Something that is different about the way that Thaddeus speaks is that he like calling things by their “proper” name. For example on page 12, the page says that “Thaddeus believes in calling things by their “proper” name.” Another example is that Thaddeus says on page 15, “But those… (he points back at the mallards) … are definitely anas venenata!” This tells us about his character is that he like to say thing with its proper name and that he likes to be right about thing.
The way that Thaddeus speaks is in kind of weird way. He likes to put in weird wacky details about something. For example he said to his little brother was that polar bears fur was black.
Nice job. Next time I encourage you to have a lot more evidence. You could also try using direct quotes. Remember to answer the second question when you blog again!
Yes I like your response but don't you think that Thaddeus does not speak wacky he just says the animals REAL name like killer whales he would say orcas.
The thing about Thaddeus is when he speaks is he always uses everything with its proper name I know this because “Thaddeus said ladybirds also known as ladybugs.”
Thaddeus speaks different because he calls everything by their proper names. For example he calls a ladybugs “ladybird beetles” and calls buffalos “bison” Those examples come from the text on page 12. This tells me that his character is interested in science. It also says that Linus was half expecting Thaddeus's nerdy friends to pop out in duck costumes.
I think Thaddeus speaks different because he likes to uses the proper words for everything. I know this because an example Linus gives is, “Thaddeus believes in calling things by their “proper” names. He calls killer whales “orcas,” buffaloes “bison.” He doesn't break the lead of the pencils, he breaks the “graphite.”” Knowing this can prove that some people may call Thaddeus a nerd, but he is actually really smart. Thaddeus says, “ But those are definitely anas venenata!” He is smart because he can remember all of the proper names for everything. This is hard because some of the proper names are hard to pronounce.
Thaddeus keeps saying that linus scoff. Today i'm going to tell you what scoff means. Scoff means to mock or speak to someone like in the story it says “Go ahead and scoff.”
The way Thaddeus speaks is different because he loves big words. He likes calling things by their “proper” name. For example on page 12, the the text says that “Thaddeus believes in calling things by their proper name.” Another example is that Thaddeus says on page 15, “But those….(the points back at the mallards)....are definitely anas venenata ducks.” This tells us about Thaddeus’s character is that he is very knowledgeable and he says very big words with their “proper” name. I know this because in the text it says Thaddeus was smiling when he proved himself right.
What is different about the way Thaddeus speaks is that he talks Scientifically because in the text it says Linus says “Thaddeus believes in calling things their proper names. He calls killer whales ‘orcas’ buffalo 'bison'. He doesn’t break the led of his pencils, he breaks the graphite. This tells me that Thaddeus like to be right about things.I know this because Thaddeus smiled when he proved himself right.
Izzy, I like your direct quotes and the evidence. But remember, you have to tell what the page # is. Also, you might want to change the first word of your response, "what". Other than those two things, it looks good.
The difference in the way Thaddeus speaks is he speaks more, and what it teaches me about his character is he wants to trick people a lot. When he told his brother that the Poisonous duck goes moo not quack his brother knew that wasn't right.
What was different about Thaddeus's voice was that him and his voice is tricky. For example, in the text he says “There is a poisonous duck in the lake.” Also he calls things proper names. For example he calls buffaloes, bison.

ReplyDeleteI love how you gave a lot of evidence, to make sure your reader got the point.

ReplyDeleteNice response, next time you should use direct quotations. Otherwise, this looks great.
DeleteCool. Why do his science geeks jump out at him?
DeleteWhat about the second question? "What does this tell you about his character?"
Deletei think its really good, maybe you could add something to make it more understandable at the end.

DeleteYou are very good on putting quotation marks in the right place!
DeleteAnd I thought I did answer the second question! My answer was, “This tells me about his character by telling me that to use all those “ ‘proper’ “ words he would have to be REALLY interested in science.”
DeleteBut, I did use direct quotes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DeleteIt looks awsome
DeleteThe last evidence of your answer doesn't make sense. What about the second question?
DeleteI wonder if you could VERIFY what the last sentence means.
DeleteVery well done!
DeleteMaybe you could use a little more details next time

DeleteHenry is right you need to use more evidence. What does the way Thaddeus speaks tell you about his character is the second question.
DeleteGood!
DeleteWhat about the second question though?
"what does this show about his character"
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThe different way that Thaddeus speaks in a way that he always calls things their proper name. For example, he calls ladybugs ladybird beetles.
ReplyDelete2. This tells me about his character is a scientist and always likes to learn about science and the text.

ReplyDeleteThaddeus speaks differently because he uses big words. This shoe’s that Thaddeus is smart.
ReplyDeleteGood job Martina. Maybe you could use a little more evidence next time. (:
DeleteI think you could try to use more evidence. What are some examples of his big words.
DeleteI really like your response, Martina. I think you did a good job on that. Now, I think you need text evidence. Am I right?
DeleteMartina you should problably use way more evidence. You didn't get anything from the text
DeleteMore detail and evidence
DeleteYou should put text evidence that would show what big words Thaddeus uses.
DeleteGood job restating the question but next time try and use more text evidence and maybe some more direct quotes
DeleteThaddeus keeps saying that linus scoff. Today i'm going to tell you what scoff means. Scoff means to mock or speak to someone like in the story it says “Go ahead and scoff.”
